Enhancing Life Skills thru Experiential Horsemanship

Self-worth, SELF-CONFIDENCE, mindfulness

TRUST, EMPATHY, responsibility, healthy relationships

COMMUNICATION, LEADERSHIP, INDEPENDENCE

What We Do

We partner with horses to facilitate richer and deeper experiential learning. In doing so, we combine the transformational benefits of both experiential and therapeutic equine-assisted services (EAS) with immersive experiences to enhance essential life skills: the psychosocial abilities and positive inter-personal behaviors that enable individuals to make informed decisions, solve problems, communicate effectively, build relationships, and deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life. Such skills include trust, assertiveness, self-worth, self-awareness, self-confidence, self-regulation, patience, empathy, healthy relationships, communication, problem solving, and more! And while activities with horses are fun, sharing authentic connections and relationships with horses is awesome!

Why Horses?

Horses have thoughts, feelings, emotions, and personality. They are sociable, non-judgmental, very sensitive to our energy, highly attuned and responsive to our behavior, and capable of individualized connections and authentic relationships. Partnering with horses brings tangible experiential and therapeutic benefits while being more fun, more exciting, more engaging, more powerful, more intense, more effective, and more rewarding than many other experiential approaches!

Come experience incredible encounters with our horses, connecting, interacting, and partnering with them while discovering the beauty of their grace, intelligence, emotions, personalities, and authentic, non-judgmental cooperation, all while enhancing many basic life skills, including trust, confidence, leadership, better communication, respect … [SEE & READ MORE →]

HEART (Horses Empowering Autistic Resilience Together) is our equine-assisted learning (EAL) program that helps foster significant improvements in emotional regulation, social communication, and self-confidence through various horse-assisted interactions. The rhythmic motion and calming presence of horses create a multisensory environment that helps reduce anxiety and stress, promoting relaxation and emotional stability. This unique interaction supports the development of emotional resilience by promoting patience, perseverance, and adaptability when … [SEE & READ MORE →]

Discipleship with Horses, also referred to as Christian Horse Training (CHT), is an approach introduced by world and national champion trainer and breeder Lynn Baber in her Gospel Horse Series book Discipleship with Horses. CHT recognizes that the secret of success can be simplicity and commitment when one understands how a transformative relationship with a horse and the transformative relationship with God follow similar paths. As such, CHT places relationship above every other goal, and CHT concepts are taught using … [READ MORE →]

ReWilding Retreats – Adults (18+) (Experiential & Transformational)

In wildlife conservation, rewilding refers to restoring habitats and creating corridors between preserved lands to allow declining populations to rebound.

Here we will apply rewilding to human attitudes so as to become reenchanted with the world, acting from the inside out, and dissolving false boundaries to truly connect compassionately and joyfully with nature, one’s self, and others.

Stable Moments® Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL) for At-Risk Youth

We have provided therapeutic equine-assisted mentoring to “at-risk” youth who had been placed within a local residential facility and who were dealing with early developmental (complex) trauma needs.

The youths benefited from a formal, structured, and demonstrably effective mentorship program which paired each youth with a horse and a trauma-informed mentor for weekly EAL sessions.

Enhancing Life Skills …

Through our Mentoring with Horses sessions, we meet our participants where they’re at, respecting unique personalities, interests, strengths, challenges and goals, to help support the development or enhancement of essential life skills, particularly in the areas of self-worth, self-regulation, emotional awareness, healthy relationships, responsibility, and independence. Such skills include calmness, mindfulness, respect, empathy, trust, humility, confidence, communication, anger management, executive functioning, and social awareness.

Mindfulness

The practice of maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of one’s thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment, without judgment, as they arise.

Attunement

The process of connecting with another by sensing and understanding the needs, emotions, and experiences of the other without explicit outward communication.

Authenticity

The degree to which one’s external actions are congruent with their internal values and desires, as exhibited in how one acts and changes in response to external influences.

★★★★★

We thank the Lord Jesus Christ for the blessings we receive daily and the ministry of service we are able to provide both to our horses and to you through Mentoring with Horses!

It is such a privilege to be able to share the joy and passion of horses with you, and a joy to see them receive and enjoy the love, appreciation, compassion, and respect they inherently deserve while helping them have authentic and transformational connections and experiences directly with you.

We want you to have amazing life-changing experiences of your own, and welcome your constructive comments and suggestions as we strive to offer encounters that are inspiring and sensational for all involved, to the glory of God, from Whom all blessings flow!

Sincerely, Victor & Helen Mathis, Mentoring With Horses LLC
